Brian R. Murphy
Andy Cogbill practices in the areas of personal injury, guardianship, and real estate with the Brian R. Murphy Law Firm for cases in both North and South Carolina. His previous experience working as an Assistant Clerk of Superior Court in Charlotte, gives him an “other side of the bench” perspective that often benefits the firm’s clients. Andy has worked as a guardian ad litem representing disabled and special needs adults. Andy has found guardianship work rewarding and said “this work has helped me keep perspective on the daily issues people generally face, in comparison with the issues severely handicapped or ill people face daily. These cases are a solid reminder that most of us need help at some point in our lives. It also helps remind me that court can be a frightening or uncomfortable experience for anyone, but that good things happen for people in court as well.” Andy sees himself as a “problem solver” that happens to work in law.
“Solving problems and trying to reach the best outcome is a satisfying accomplishment – in or out of the courtroom."

Jennifer Burden is our lead litigation paralegal working closely with Attorney Brian. She earned her Paralegal Associates Degree from CPCC (an American Bar approved school) back in 2008 and is also an active NC Notary. Since then, she has acquired many valuable skills in general civil litigation matters with Real Estate and Estate Administration experience. Jennifer feels she brings real-world experience as well as learned knowledge to her clients. She empathizes with clients going through legal situations because she too knows what it feels like to be a client. She understands both sides and how important a good legal team is essential in making a difference. Her ultimate goal: Help those in need by going the extra mile for them. While not at work Jennifer is active in her church, spending time with her 3 boys, and helping her husband of 11 years manage his roofing business.
I grew up in a small town in Pennsylvania, moving to the south after college. I graduated from Juniata College in 1990 with a bachelor's degree in Biology/Physiology, then again in 1993 with a bachelor's in Nursing from Barton College. I did a nurse externship my last year of college in the Operating Room and after receiving my Registered Nursing license went to work full time in the OR. I have worked at several hospitals including Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia where I gained experience in trauma surgery as well as specialty areas including pediatric, orthopedic and neurosurgery. I began working with Mr. Murphy in September of 2016 and have been enjoying both the atmosphere here as well as the challenging case work. It is a new experience for me to be at a desk, but it is very fulfilling to know the work may be helping people who are experiencing difficult challenges

I have recently joined the Brian R Murphy Law Firm as a legal assistant. Prior to joining the firm, I worked in education. I retired a year ago after 40 years with a local school district where I was a Speech Therapist. I loved the work I did with students to help them improve their communication skills. I am a task-oriented person so this job is perfect for me. I love searching for the information we need to create a solid presentation to the insurance company. In my spare time, I enjoy going to the beach, spending time with my four grandchildren and shopping.
